Ever get tired of wading through lots of irrelevant search engine results, even using Google? Got a special area of interest that you wish you could do specific searches in? The Google Co-op Custom Search Engine tool allows you to create a search engine that only search a specific list of sites. The way you include or exlcude sites is very flexible.
I can think of tons of uses for this - in just one search you could check all your favorite book sites, shopping sites, study/research sites, IT help resources, photo sites etc. etc.
The best thing is, as specialists start to create and share their own search engines you can make use of these. You get an expert filtered list of resources so don't have to create your own. Here's a couple I created with just a few minutes orf clicking:
Search a selection of social networking sites - Useful for when you have lost someone's contact information, if you think they are the type of person who may have registered at one of these sites.
Search on Mobile Computing and Gadgets - I only want to see information from quality sites and from within the forums on such sites. No more junky shopping sites. I've only added a few sites at the time of writing but will continue to expand the list.
There are toolbar buttons for Internet Explorer and Firefox so that you can easily include or exclude sites from the results.
