So after a couple of weeks of contemplating and one full day of editing the site redesign is almost complete. Let me know if you find any bugs. The main changes are:
- Got rid of many of the widgets from the top page. Much lighter, cleaner and faster to load now.
- Creating pages with articles, links and information. Check out the links to the left. Gives me a vehicle foe creating much more content. Many pages have things like del.icio.us bookmarks embedded so they will grow as I surf.
- New color scheme. I'm a terrible designer so when I happen to hit on something I like I stick with it.
- I also added the pop ups showing a thumbnail of the site behind the links. I'm worried some people will find these annoying but thought it was worth giving them a try. They can be disabled but it takes 2-3 clicks and is not instantly easy to find out how.
After considering other platform options such as Movable Type, Site Kreator and Google Pages, I decided to stick with TypePad. It still offers I feel the best combination of ease of use with enough flexibility to customize. The only thing that is a bit of a pain is the customized navigation on the left, but not too much of a problem.
Feedback and observations much appreciated.
