Mind Map Files from Social Networking Service Presentation

On the 12th October I gave an introductory presentation on Social Networking Services (SNS). The focus was on SNS services used for busines rather than social purposes (Busiess Networking Services?). The idea was to familiarize people with how to use and make use of SNS services and introduce some of the most widely used services both worldwide and in Japan.

I used MindManager 6 to prepare the presentation. I already had the presentation in my head and MindManager (MM) made it extremely easy output this into a presentable format. I have used PowerPoint (PPT) in the past and find trying to reorganize content across slides is impossible. Although MM can export to PPT there is also a presentation mode and I found this very effective for giving presentation.

You can download the MindManager 6 format presentation file here. (Right click and Save). If you don't own MindManager you can download a free viewer from the MindJet site. The above graphic links to an export covering part of the map. There is a v.basic, difficult to understand PPT export using the default MM settings with no formatting or reorganization here.

New Google Site: The Google Watch

I figured I was just posting too much about Google here and wanted to post more so set up a new site at - the Google Watch - www.thegooglewatch.com. It's amazing what you can do with TypePad in just a few hours. So expect to see less posts here, and be sure to sign up for the RSS feed and/or the discussion group at the new site if you want to hear about cool new Google features.

Make a map of the countries you've visited

World66 is a cool site that, in addition to faciliating a collaborative world travel guide, has a tool for you to make a map of the countries (or US States) you've visited. Makes me realize how much of the world I haven't seen. Will have to get travelling again.

Wildcard Web Searches

Was looking in the Google FAQ trying to find out how to do wildcard search for part of a word (i.e. fab*lous to find fabulous etc.) and was very, very surprised to find that they don't support this. Digging a bit further I found that in fact most search engines don't have this function although supposedly AltaVista did in the past. (I was sure I'd done wildcard searches before). Luckily Search Engine Watch linked to one search engine - Exalead (in BETA at the current time) - that does support wildcard searches.
